All the issues that come with Fall have arrived. Helicopter utilization is down and our heli falling program is slowing, due to fog and low cloud. The scenic boat ride for conventional crews is getting interesting, no scenery as they travel in the dark and heavy winds cause delays. Our towing of log booms has hit a wall with the ocean swells in the Imperial Eagle Channel. I am hoping we have a better fall this year, than last year.
We have armoured the Cataract boom grounds in an effort to protect things. Keeping wood moving is a major issue not only for our booming grounds but for the mill as well. Their production plan is tied tight to our production. Barges may be the in thing this fall.
Logging is progressing well in Cataract. We have been upgrading the old roads and culverts in an effort to get ready for winter. BP8 will draw to a close in the next 10 days; we are a third into CL36; CL12 is opening up with BP13 and CL8 ready soon.
Toquart is in cleanup mode with 0415 to complete and heli cleanup in 73 & 9926. When the moons align, we will start Toquart sort again for the last of the 2007 volume.
Heli is struggling with weather issues. The Probyn job is down to its last 1000m3 or so. Crews are working on oversized wood in CL6 in Cataract and Block 73, 9926 and 1408 in Toquart. I hope to have these blocks complete mid October. Heli falling will continue as long as weather allows.
TFL54 is still in engineering phase with some issues around approvals causing delays.
