The Mamook Coulson association has begun watering wood in Stewardson. We are finally logging after many months of preparation. The initial area is Escalante, the customer is Probyn and the haul is long. Most of our future blocks are closer than Escalante. The helicopter wood is large and has been a bit of a challenge for hill crew.
The southern operation has begun as well. We started by cleaning up 6000 m3 of fir remaining from last year’s second growth project. G1 has everything – heli logging, grapple yarding and hoechucking. There will be a swing to helicopter in the Kennedy flats which will fill the gap as we complete road in other hoechuck blocks.
The Cataract area is coming to an end with CL21A completing. Deactivation will continue for awhile.
The transition to TFL54 will continue for a few months as the style of logging is heavy to retention and hoechucking will become more prominent. Our 044 Madill's are not good for our future high retention logging areas. I'm looking to other equipment types for corridor logging.
We are running very tight to market. Many companies have taken time out to let the markets improve; the Coulson Group is cinching up but continues to operate with minor adjustments to combat market weakness.
As TFL54 spools, there will be a lot of new faces. I would like to welcome them all. It is important to pay attention to the new faces to ensure their knowledge and safe work practices are correct. Have a great summer.
