In almost every operation within the Coulson Group of Companies there are pedestrians working in close proximity to mobile equipment. Extreme care must be taken by all to minimize the risks and be knowledgeable of the potential hazards that are present in our day to day activities. Eye contact with the operators is crucial for all pedestrians that are entering an area in which mobile equipment is operating. There is no room for guessing whether or not the operator knows you are there. Verification by the operator must be seen and acknowledged by the pedestrian before entering the workspace.
At CML, CSL, and Millworks, forklifts travel throughout the mill yard with loads of lumber that can limit visibility. Lumber, chip and logging truck drivers all must also be aware of who is around them at all times. In the sort yards and landings, buckers, bundlers and scalers need to be in constant communication and have eye contact with the loader operators and truck drivers for a safe operation. Visibility and eye contact between pilots and ground crews are just as important in our aviation divisions.
Hi-vis clothing is an important tool that can alert an operator to a pedestrian. Make sure all of your PPE is in good condition and let your supervisor know if it is not.
